Orthodontics is not just for children and teens. Adult orthodontics constitutes about 50% of our patients. That number is growing thanks to more esthetic treatment choices including aligners and clear braces. The advancement of technology also makes adult orthodontics more convenient and more predictable. It is never too late to achieve that smile you’ve been looking for.
Why Should Adults Get Orthodontic Treatment?
Achieve the smile you’ve always wanted! It is never too late to gain the confidence to laugh and smile without hiding your teeth. You may feel self-conscious about your smile, especially since there are now so many meetings on Zoom.
Healthier teeth. Straight teeth not only look great, but are easier to brush, floss, and keep clean. Clean teeth will last longer and will be at a lower risk for cavities, gum disease (gingivitis), and bone disease (periodontitis).
Prevent further shifting. Teeth will get more and more crowded over time. Some people may feel like their teeth do not shift for years, then gradually shift in adulthood. Correct the crowding with adult orthodontics. Afterwards, you will wear retainers to maintain that correction and prevent future shifting.
Fixing relapse. If you had braces in the past, you may have noticed your teeth shifting over time. This is especially true if you lost or did not wear your retainers. Fixing relapse can be shorter, more convenient, and less expensive than you think.
Avoid excessive tooth wear. Bite problems will cause your teeth to wear excessively or unnaturally over time. This means you are at a higher risk of damaging your teeth. Examples of such damage are gum recession, cracked or fractured teeth, and short teeth from a very deep bite or overbite.
